Merel Meijer ('98) paints in both her studios in Amsterdam and on the Veluwe under the name SAMSOM (short for her first names: Sara Anna Merel). As a kid she could not decide if she wanted to be the next big fashion photographer or roam in the wild with National Geographic, adoring both the work of Peter Lindbergh and Jimmy Nelson.

''My artistic process mirrors a continuous evolution where each layer represents a moment, an experience, or a turning point. Just as our lives evolve with each passing day, my art captures this perpetual change, inviting viewers to witness the beauty of transformation. Within the fusion of colors and textures, my paintings symbolize the endless possibilities that arise from embracing change. They serve as a reminder that life, like art, gains richness and depth through the amalgamation of layers, each one contributing to the masterpiece of our existence.'' The results? Well, you’ll just have to see for yourself.
